As your Amper Aggregators collect the electrical signals from your machines, our Gateways will send this data to our system over the internet. Having devices maintain a healthy connection to the internet is essential to ensuring that no data is lost. This article will discuss the two options for Gateways - Cellular or Wi-Fi.
One option for your Amper Gateway is to connect through a Cellular network. Cellular is a great option if your facility has strict IT policies for adding devices to your network. When opting for cellular, Amper does not use your local network at all, providing your IT team peace of mind on data security. Since these devices do not utilize your local network, they come configured and activated so installing is as easy as plug and play. Another reason to consider Cellular is if your local Wi-Fi network does not have a strong signal strength on your factory floor. If your local network is unable to accommodate the Amper gateways with a stable connection, you may see loss of data.
While there are benefits of using Cellular gateways, opting for Wi-Fi gateways has its advantages as well. Utilizing your local network instead of a Cellular network will allow you more control over the way your device is connecting since you will not be relying on an external cellular network for connectivity. Another advantage of using Wi-Fi is that devices typically perform more reliably when utilizing your local network, given that your factory has the infrastructure to connect to the Amper devices.
